- In the event that a fire does occur in your home, get out immediately and call 911 from an outside location. Never run back into a burning building. Keep the following tips in mind:
- Before exiting a room, feel the door with the back of your hand. If the door is hot, use a different exit.
- If there is smoke, crawl on your hands and knees towards the closest exit, keeping your self no higher than one to two feet from the floor.
- If you are trapped inside a room, try to block smoke from entering by stuffing blankets or rugs under the door. Take a flashlight or sheet and wave it from a window to signal for help.
