Gas and Electric Service

Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E), under the regulation of the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC), provides gas and electric service to San Francisco residents. To establish utilities service in your new home, call PG&E at (800) PGE-5000. If service has been completely switched off, a PG&E technician will have to meet you at your new home to reconnect gas service, and relight, adjust and inspect appliances. Likewise, if you are moving, contact PG&E to have service switched off or transferred to the new owner’s name. Be sure to make arrangements at least one week before any change.

If your home is experiencing a power outage, call PG&E’s 24-hour Power Outage Information line at 1-800-743-5002. For an emergency within your own home, dial the 24-hour Emergency & Customer Service line at 1-800-743-5000 (however, life-threatening emergencies should always be reported immediately to 911). PG&E also offers a helpful service to residents temporarily without power: a wake-up call, along with an update on the problem and an estimated time of power restoration. Call (800) 743-5002, if you lose power at night and think you might need PG&E to stand in for your alarm clock.

Visit PG&E online for further information, including a helpful guide to “Understanding Your Usage”.
