Neighborhood Traffic and Safety

  • The DPT’s Livable Streets initiative addresses traffic problems through a variety of projects. For example, the Traffic Calming effort reins in speeders through the use of special devices, such as speed “humps” and traffic circles; the Pedestrian Program focuses on improvements and additions to crosswalk areas and signage. See our Livable Streets Initiative article for details on the scope of the endeavor and how the project might benefit your own neighborhood.

  • If you have ongoing traffic or parking issues in your community that you would like to discuss with the DPT, you may also arrange for a DPT representative to attend your next neighborhood association meeting. Mail or fax your request to:

Bond M. Yee, Executive Director
Department of Parking & Traffic
25 Van Ness Avenue, Suite 410
San Francisco, CA 94102
Fax: 415-554-9834

  • To report traffic violations — e.g., blocked driveways, chronic speeding, double parking, etc. — call the DPT’s Enforcement Division at (415) 553-1200. You may also contact the San Francisco Police Department’s (SFPD's) Traffic Company at (415) 553-1245.

  • If someone has abandoned an automobile on your street, call (415) 781-JUNK or email Abandoned.Auto@sfgov.org.

  • To report a smoking vehicle, you may simply fill out an online complaint form at the Bay Area Air Quality Management District’s Web site.
