Neighborhood Traffic and Safety
- Many roadways in San Francisco do not permit tour buses and trucks. The DPT provides an online map indicating the locations of these "Restricted Traffic Streets”. To report violators, call the SFPD’s Traffic Company at (415) 553-1245.
- If you’re curious about the official traffic volume for your street, the DPT offers a Traffic Counts Report. The most recent counts for the various streets date from 2004, while others go back as far as 1995, so not all of the information is necessarily accurate. The DPT also offers a “Transportation Fact Sheet” that provides a range of traffic-related statistics for the City, such as the number of cars commuting into San Francisco and the number of vehicles per household. These statistics are also not necessarily current, but can provide you with at least a rough estimate of the City’s traffic figures.
- Finally, bear in mind that traffic volume can increase significantly during morning and evening rush hours. Before buying a new home, be sure to investigate how a neighborhood’s noise level changes during commuting times.
