Good fences make good neighbors –– but not if a barking dog sits behind one. Barking dogs must be one of the top ten conflicts between neighbors anywhere. But in San Francisco, with its patchwork of connecting backyards, howling hounds could rank even higher.

If your problem lies with a neighbor's dog, it might be friendlier to simply attempt a reasonable discussion –– that is, if you feel comfortable and safe addressing your neighbor directly.
