Leash Law and Parks Policy for Dogs

Consideration of new off-leash areas is ongoing, though any proposal must be assessed according to the official "Final Dog Policy." If you would like to submit a proposal for a DPA in your area or call in maintenance for an already existing one, send your request in writing to:

The San Francisco Recreation & Park Department
Attn: General Manager
501 Stanyan Street
San Francisco, CA 94117.

Following are some more helpful numbers to keep on hand:

  • To report a hurt or stray animal, call the Animal Care & Control (ACC) at (415) 554-9400.

  • Report vicious dogs to the SFPD at (415) 553-0123. It maintains a Vicious and Dangerous Animals Unit which investigates animal attacks and potentially dangerous behavior.
