If you are involved in your neighborhood association, you might already be familiar with San Francisco’s General Plan, a roadmap of coordinated strategies and policies for the City’s long-term development. Although a municipal document produced under the aegis of the local Planning Commission, the General Plan must cover seven aspects as mandated by state law: circulation, conservation, housing, land use, noise, open space, safety, and seismic safety. San Francisco’s General Plan contains the following elements:
Air Quality;
Arts;
Commerce and Industry;
Community Facilities;
Community Safety;
Environmental Protection;
Housing;
Recreation and Open Space;
Transportation; and Urban Design and Arts.
In turn, the sections for these elements are set forth with particular goals, objectives and policies in accordance with the nature of the overall General Plan. Where applicable, you’ll also find links to cross-referenced land-use guidelines.
